The word malware comes from MALicious + softWARE |
| Designed to be harmful: Malware is software designed to damage a computer system without the knowledge of the user |
| Designed to install itself on a computer without the permission of the owner |
| It serves as a collective term for many different forms of malicious software such as computer Viruses, Worms, Trojan Horses, Spyware, Adware, and so on. |
| Some software may be considered malicious even though it may have been programmed with the intention of providing an arguable benefit. Ex: Nachi worm – Forced to download Windows Update |
| Malware should not be confused with defective software, that is, software which has a genuine purpose but contains harmful bugs |

Computer Trojan horses are simply malicious computer programs that appear as useful. |

Spam: |

Spam is an Electronic Mail (e-mail) that refers to unsolicited commercial massage or unsolicited bulk massage. |

Malware can come bundled with shareware/freeware or other downloadable software So don't download and try untrustworthy softwares
Always use your Anti-Virus to Scan any Downloaded Software BEFORE Installing. Search for free version from industry standard anti-virus vendors only
Don't be cautious of free anti virus, and DO NOT USE cracked or free serial key for anti-virus program that you may “find” on the Internet. There are free versions from industry trusted anti-virus vendors.
Use an industry standard internet security software such as from: Kaspersky Internet Security/Anti-virus , AVG Internet Security/Anti-virus, Trend-Micro, Norton/Symantec, Microsoft, McAfee, Panda, Sophos, Bullguard, Avast, Avil, ESET etc. (If you are not sure which is the best product for you to buy ask for more information from PC Doctor).
Be aware that most current malware arrive as e-mail attachments. Don't open unfamiliar or unsure attachments e-mail
Enable Mail Client & Microsoft Office application’s Macro Security
Perform Windows Update Regularly & Make sure that your operating system is up-to-date
Use an industry Standard Firewall (Software/Hardware)
Never use removable media without scanning it for viruses
Keep a regular backup of your important files
