Antivirus 2009 can come bundled with shareware/freeware or other downloadable software So don't download and try untrustworthy softwares
Always use your Anti-Virus to Scan any Downloaded Software BEFORE Installing. Search for free version from industry standard anti-virus vendors only
Don't be cautious of free anti virus, and DO NOT USE cracked or free serial key for anti-virus program that you may “find” on the Internet. There are free versions from industry trusted anti-virus vendors.
Use an industry standard internet security software such as from: Kaspersky Internet Security/Anti-virus , AVG Internet Security/Anti-virus, Trend-Micro, Norton/Symantec, Microsoft, McAfee, Panda, Sophos, Bullguard, Avast, Avil, ESET etc. (If you are not sure which is the best product for you to buy ask for more information from PC Doctor).
I know that ESET Security suite will stop a Vista machine being infected from the online version of the AV2k9 or AVXP et al.. BUT the user needs to close the browser as soon as the Antivirus warning appears.. then start a full antivirus scan of the PC.
It is timely to warn that their Anti virus programs need to be regulary updated, daily for many. Also many purchased AV’s will only update for a year, where the user will need to purchase a new 12 month licence. There are some companies (ESET being one) that offer 2 year licences, but is important for you to check the status of the licence/subscription.
Also. When I have encountered members of the Fake-AV community recently, I have had to reinstall the antivirus..100% so far for those that had a current licence.
And the Fakeware manages to allow 3 or more extra Trojans and misc worms to install, including SDBOT, as well I had one that also had a USB Drive trojan.
